Planning to buy a Smartphone? Here are three best selling Smartphones that you could choose from- the Motorola iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre and Motorola Droid. You could follow a survey result on these phones presented by BillShrink. The phones are compared and contrasted on certain categories.
In the case of storage capacity, AT&T ‘s iPhone 3GS and Verizon’s Motorola Droid have a capacity of 16 GB which is double that of Sprint’s Palm Pre with a capacity of only 8GB. So if you want to keep a lot of files such as downloadable media files etc, its better for you to choose between the 3GS and Droid.
If you want a smartphone with a longer battery life, choose between the 3GS and the Palm Pre which come with a battery life of 300 hrs each with standby. The Droid has a slightly shorter battery life of 270 hours with standby. However, the talk-time of all the three smartphones is 5 hours with 3 GB.
Most of us want our smartphones to double up as good handy cameras for us. Amongst these three phones, I’ll vouch for the Droid as the phone of choice when it comes to camera priority because this has a 5 megapixel resolution in comparison to the other two which have only 3 megapixel resolution So if it is good quality photographs with clear
sharp images that you choose to click with your smartphone go for the Droid. You can do video recording with this phone. With the 3GS you can do editing in addition to video recording. I think, if you want your photographs to be perfect, you should have the ability to tweak their settings so that they look good. In such a case, your smartphone should have editing ability.
All the three smart phones come with Wi-Fi. All the three phones have GPS facility and they come in turn by turn and digital compass features The Palm Pre comes with a turn-by –turn and navigational feature. Both the 3GS and Droid take voice commands but the Palm Pre does not take voice commands.
All the three phones are compatible with a variety of file formats. MPEG -4, H.264, Video, MP3, and AAC are common to all the three Smartphones. The 3GS uses the iTunes App Store, the Palm Pre uses the Palm App Catalogue, and the Droid uses the Android Market. I’m amazed by the vast differences in applications that three phones can hold. The 3GS beats the rest with the largest number of applications amounting to 93,200. Next is the Driod with 10, 000 applications. Last comes the Palm Pre with only 258 applications. The 3GS cannot do multitasking while the other two smartphones can do that. These days, when a number of things need to be done simultaneously due to shortage of time, don’t you think multitasking is an essential feature that the 3GS needs to include?
Coming to costs, you’ll get both the Droid and the 3GS from $199 to $ 399. The Palm Pre starts a bit lower at $149.The usage plans of the Palm Pre are slightly lower than those of the other two. You can check the prices in the survey results infographic.
