It is a rare situation when a business concern gets associated with the non-profit organization. To mark the first ally between a corporate and a non-profit organization top service provider in e-learning, Educomp has decided to offer an amount of Rs. 150 crore to the Chennai based management institute name Great Lakes Institute of Management.
While Educomp boasts to be the first and biggest education company that is publicly listed, the management institute, Great Lakes is a non-profit group, which has been formed under the section of 25 of Companies Act.
The management institute was formed in the year of 2004 and it was established by Professor Bala V Balachandran, who comes from Kellogg School of Management.
The ally between the two should not be taken as a commercial agreement and to prove that Prof Bala has clearly stated that it is a tandem operation of both the entities to take the level of education in India to the next best level. The investment will not be done in lump sum and rather finds will be furnished continuously for 5 years and long term investment will help the management institute to expand all over the country. Currently Great Lakes is concentrated just within the state pf Chennai and soon it hopes to spread its branches to cities like Mumbai, Delhi and somewhere in eastern India (the site is yet to be decided).
