Taking up a new job can be quite daunting for many. Most are worried about whether or not they will fit in; whether or not they will be able to perform according to new companies’ standards; whether or not they will enjoy their job, and so on.
These are concerns for most individuals who start a new career. However, there are few things you can do to increase your chances of succeeding at work.
Punctuality
This is THE MOST important thing, especially when you join a new company. I cannot stress more, but I guess you get it. You will create a bad impression by turning up late on the first day of your job. If your superior sees you rushing in late, you are on the back foot right from the first day. If you think you might get late for any reason, call up you
immediate superior and inform him about it. You must also practice punctuality at tasks assigned to you.
Be Alert
Be alert while at work. Assume you wouldn’t be provided with a notepad and a pen during your training sessions, hence bring your own things. If you think something important is being discussed, take notes.
Here is a useful tip: Ask questions. Try to avoid silly ones and make them sound genuine. Most bosses would prefer answer simple questions and have things in place rather than not answering any and getting things done in wrong manner.
Be Patient With Your Work
Everyone wants to be successful. However, hurrying up things will simply ruin your work. Take time to understand your task, and learn effective techniques to perform them before you decide to take the burden of running the entire company.
Work Hard
Yes, you also need to work smart, but don’t forget that hard ward is a prerequisite, especially during initial days of your new job. Turning up to work early or stay back late sometimes, can create a good impression. All bosses like committed employees.
Don’t Involve in Office Politics
No matter how good or reputed your company is, people there would be involved in office politics. However, try to stay out of it as far as possible. It’s probably very difficult to realize you have become a part of it. You have to be conscious and try not to badmouth anyone, especially your boss, and don’t be a part of any gossip.
Respect Seniors
Your superiors are there for a reason. If they have the right to hire you, they can also fire you. So, make sure you don’t involve in fights with them. There are some employees who find it hard to do what they are asked to. If you are not among them, try not to support them.
