Budgeting for a Project: A Brief Discussion



Every project involves turning some ideas into a concept; the process is extremely challenging, but if successfully done yields great rewards. Once you have developed the idea and followed it up by creation of a concept, you will have to determine a perfect financial plan for the project. Budgeting for many is an extremely painful step; however, when you are entering a fresh venture that requires financial investments, you cannot do without budgeting. Below, we have given some tips for budgeting for a project:

  1. Budgeting for a projectStart by creating a segment dedicated to the staffs. Try to assume what are the works in the project that will have to be done by hired individuals and what would their compensations be. Include amounts to be spent for both temporary and full time salaries of staffs as well as consultation fees if any in the staffing section of expenditures.
  2. The next segment should include the operational expenses. Find out the tasks that need to be accomplished for successful completion of the project. Determine the items that will be requires and in what quantity. This will help you in finding out the amount you will have to spend for purchasing those items.
  3. Budgeting for a project planCreate a separate segment for costs of external support. This segment will include advertising costs (both print and online), promotional costs and costs of external communication.
  4. Like every financial plan budgeting for a project must also include a segment dedicated to unallocated expenses. This segment will act as a cushion in case any unexpected, but urgent expense arrives.
  5. Your budget file must have an extra page that would track the actual project expenses. This will help you to compare how much more or less you are spending for the project than the amounts set in your original budget.
